Call for Proposals (2026) for Global Studies Symposiums and Workshops Organized by Graduate Students and Junior Scholars
The Graduate School of Global Studies supports graduate students and junior scholars to organize public symposiums and workshops. Additionally, papers presented at these forums may be published in AGLOS, the online journal of the school.

The Graduate School of Global Studies holds interseminars to encourage academic exchanges among the students in its constituent programs. These events, held several times a year, focus on the more practical aspects of research. Topics include: discussing applications for the research fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, critiquing the drafts for the academic journals, and discussing research plans for the field work.

Call for applications for 2025 Graduate School of Global Studies Research Grant
Submission period: April 23, 2025 to May 25, 2025
Deadline: May 25, 2025 by 23:59
Submission of Application Paper: The application forms must be filled out and submitted to the GSGS Office via e-mail(gds-gs@sophia.ac.jp).
Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in an MA or PhD Program in the Graduate School of Global Studies
*NOTE: Students taking a leave of absence are not eligible.
Amount of Grants: The grant may cover the partial or full amount of expenses needed for the proposed research. Approximately 4 applications will be selected. The maximum amount of funding for one student’s application is 200,000 JPY.

2025 Doctoral Dissertation Completion Grant,
Graduate School of Global Studies
The objective is to ensure that successfully defended dissertations are in optimum condition to be placed in the Sophia University Library repository where they will be publicly available.
Uses of the Funds:
a. Final binding (one copy) to be submitted to the University
b. Preparing visual images, such as figures and illustrations
c. Checking the accuracy of translated materials
d. Proofreading
e. Other
Eligibility to Apply: Doctoral candidates in one of the GSGS programs (GPIR, GPAS, GPGS) who will defend their dissertation in the 2024 academic year.
