On 4 June 2025, Prof. Daisaku Higashi in Graduate Program of International Cooperation at Sophia University hosted the online symposium, “Challenges of Peacemaking and Peacebuilding in Gaza”, which was the first event after Sophia University and University of Jordan signed MoU in May 2025.

In the end of May 2025, Sophia University and University of Jordan established the MoU. Thus, Sophia University and University of Jordan will co-host the first seminar on “Challenges of peacemaking and peacebuilding in Gaza: How to stop military conflicts and create sustainable peace in Gaza.”

<Purposes>

The purpose of this seminar is to start sustainable dialogue among experts, students, and the public in Jordan and Japan on how to create peace in Gaza and the Middle East. A series of discussions will be planned to contribute to deepening the understanding of dynamics on the armed conflicts and seeking for better approaches to realize a ceasefire and create sustainable peace in the Middle East region, which is vital for both Jordan and Japan.
