Political Sociology
Using sociological theory, my research analyzes how the foundations of social movements are formed—focusing primarily on cases from Japanese civil society—and how civil society interacts with and exerts influence on the political and economic spheres.

Message
The French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu once remarked that “sociology is a combat sport.” One of sociology’s essential roles is to equip us with the ability to dissect structures of power and domination in political and social life, and to uncover the discourses that legitimize them. My aim is to cultivate an approach to sociology that enables us to critically reflect on society and politics—including our own social positions—and to use this perspective as a tool for deeper understanding.
