  • Research interests
International Politics, European Security, Transatlantic Relations
My research examines how changes in the international structure shape the security policies of European countries. With regard to the Cold War era, I am particularly interested in the negative relationship between the U.S.–Soviet bipolar system and European security. In more contemporary contexts, my focus is on how the rise of authoritarian states has affected Europe’s security environment. While my primary case study is France, my work also considers comparisons with the United States and the United Kingdom.
  • Message
When analyzing international events and phenomena, we often fall into the habit of treating the state as a single, unified actor. At the same time, it is neither practical nor meaningful to conduct analysis at the level of every individual within the state. Foreign policy analysis offers tools that allow us to “open the black box” and examine the internal dynamics of actors engaged in international affairs. In the course Foreign Policy Studies, we will learn this analytical approach together.
