Security, Political Change, and Regional Organizations in the Post‑Soviet Space
I am interested in the evolving regional order that emerged after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, including the development and activities of regional organizations to which Russia and the Central Asian states belong, such as the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). As part of collaborative research projects, I am engaged in studies on topics including nuclear energy development in Eurasian countries, the issue of the Siberian internment as it relates to Japan’s foreign policy after its defeat in 1945, and the role of natural resources in regime transitions across post‑Soviet states. In addition, although at my own pace as an individual research endeavor, I also aim to compile a historical analysis of conflicts and peace processes in the Eurasian heartland since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.

While the premise that “scholarship should be enjoyable” is fundamental, graduate‑level inquiry also requires a sense of originality and social relevance. I hope each of you will continue to refine your intellect with an awareness of how your work can contribute to the broader world.
